Introducing CIPHER Medical’s new Head of Education and Research: Chris Moat

Please see our new range of Physiotherapy Services here to find out how we can support you.

CIPHER Medical, while providing high-quality clinical care, event medical support, and patient transport, also offers a large range of nationally recognised education and training opportunities for individuals, health professionals and businesses. We are delighted to introduce our new Head of Education and Research, who shares our passion and professional vision, Chris Moat.

Chris Moat - CIPHER Medical's new Head of Education & ResearchImpressed and inspired by the ethos, vision and aims of CIPHER, Chris feels that his new role is an exciting opportunity for him to bring his experience and positive influence to CIPHER’s comprehensive education portfolio. He has, to date, an impressive twenty-four year career with North East Ambulance Service, undertaking a wide range of clinical and educational roles, which led to him stepping into the world of academia. His most recent role prior to joining CIPHER was as a senior lecturer in Paramedic Practice at Teesside University, a post held by Chris for over ten years.

In addition to his very busy teaching schedule during this time, Chris was also able to enhance his own educational profile with several higher education qualifications, which led to increasing and developing his own understanding of both regional and national pre-hospital education. Chris has also been a recent contributor to the College of Paramedics’ national paramedic curriculum review, and if this wasn’t enough, he is also pursuing his own PhD studies! We can certainly be assured that Chris will bring the most up-to-date curriculum knowledge, both practical and in educational terms, to his role at CIPHER. A busy man, he also intends to continue to engage with the College of Paramedics and with the Health and Care Professions Council, which will only benefit #TeamCIPHER and the work we do.

As we can already see, Chris is a motivated individual and one who embraces challenge. “I relish challenges,” he says of his own work philosophy, “and opportunities which are unique, or innovative ways of working. Personally, I have always believed that education should be of an excellent standard, meets the needs of the learner and enhances the care afforded to all service users.” And it is this that drives Chris’ motivation to deliver high-quality education. He is clearly very passionate about the cross-over of the health care professions and education, and how this can have a positive impact on others, saying “There is nothing more satisfying than supporting an individual to achieve their educational goals and witnessing their progression.” This is a very welcome sentiment in terms of our very own #OneTeam, as all strive to provide the best service, supportive of each other and of the professional progression of all in the team.

Chris Moat - CIPHER Medical's new Head of Education & ResearchChris is a committed and diligent individual who is rightly proud of his professional achievements. And he most certainly has much to be proud of, stating, “Having left school at 16, having only just managed to achieve basic GCSE qualifications, I never dreamt I would study to PhD level or achieve a role such as this.” However, despite his impressive educational and professional climb, what gives him the biggest buzz is his family, his children and their achievements, declaring that what makes him most proud is “witnessing my children grow into well rounded and mature young adults who can become successful individuals in their chosen fields.”

Settling into his new role at CIPHER is going to take up most of his time in the short term, but when asked about any downtime he allows himself, what he does to relax, he – unsurprisingly – says that he likes to keep busy. However, having recently stepped down from his role as grassroots football manager – a position he filled for over 10 years – the demands on his “spare” time have relaxed somewhat and he is now able to indulge and reignite his passion “for the great outdoors”. An element of this appreciation of the natural world is touring the UK and France with his wife, though not if Newcastle United are playing! A self-confessed “long-suffering” supporter of NUFC, he is “very much looking forward to the future of the club.” Watch this space!

In fact, still on a sporting theme, a possibly little-known fact about Chris is that he made an appearance on the opening sequence of a Sky Sports football advert which was shown throughout the season! So, clinical work in pre-hospital care, academic teaching and learning, and television fame! You are very welcome to #TeamCIPHER, Chris, and we look forward to working with you.
